Writing posts of no real use on my lunch is my new hobby…

Because that seems to be the only time I actually write anything anymore. I need to find more than 20 minutes here and 15 minutes there for this stuff.
Anyway, we’ve seen both Tengu and Jezmon assume their newly appointed duties as “author” on the site (Kerri’s now the top commentator!) and I’ll take a moment to introduce everyone to the newest member of the NR team…Stoker…who may shortly grace us all with a review of the newest issue of Joe Hill’s Locke and Key. I, for one, am agog…seriously, I haven’t read this line yet and Stoker is more knowledgeable about comics than anyone else I personally know so I value his opinion in said arena.
We may, in fact, have yet one more brave soul coming on board the NR family(mafia) as well…damn, this shit’s explodin’ yo!
Brief Update Whilst I Devour Foodstuffs

So today I’m trying an experiment in…let’s call it, pushing the limits of ridiculousness. See, I came into the bookmines at 6 am and I’ll leave at 2. I will then return at 9 pm and stay until 5 am. I will then have to teach at 8:30. At some point in there I have to send off an application for a teaching post, finish another one, grade 18 papers (I’ve already read the rough drafts so maybe it won’t be so bad to do that…) and, I guess, sleep.
One christmas season I worked my normal Mon-Fri 7-3:30 shift at the bookmines while also working as an overnight manager at a toy shop from 10 pm until 7 am. Luckily, both stores were in the same mall. That lasted for just under two months. I did, prior to that, work the same 7-3:30 bookmines and a 6-2 am shift at a movie theatre five nights a week. That went on for about a year. I have this thing about working myself to exhaustion.
Anyway, some changes coming up to the ol’ NR soon. New faces…er, voices…um, text producers may or may not be coming on board. And they won’t exactly be new, really. There is also a rumor about one man’s hatred of all things cottage cheese and ice.
I’ve had six shots of espresso today and I’m about to finish my first soda…see how I’m delirious already. Someone needs to come down to my class tomorrow and video tape that shit, no doubt it will be, as the kids say, comedy gold.

The whole purpose of this test is to check whether or not NR has successfully created a magical link between the NR site you all know and love and twitter.
As the faithful Normalinauts know twitter is to Gilgrim as cowbell is to Walkin and you don’t even have to be on twitter or have a twitter account to follow Gilgrims tweets…see the pink box over on the right?
But I figured, why not have an official style NR twitter so you can waste even more time seeing the NR posts on twitter. How awesome/lame/awesome again is that shit?
Anyway, follow NR on twitter, at http://twitter.com/NormalityRstord.
Do it! Do it now!

I just, this very minute (well, like ten minutes ago) sent a new comic to Gilgrim. It’s only three fairly simple panels. We might actually have another comic this week.
Can someone check to make sure the skies aren’t running red with blood?
OK, so this week’s comic will get more into this, but I’m seriously contemplating get rich quick schemes. Probably you’ve all heard of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies…no, well imagine Pride and Prejudice and then add some zombies. No, seriously, that’s fucking it.
A minor side ramble here. What’s the fucking deal with zombies? Seriously, why do people get all queezy in the nether regions about zombies? I just don’t get it. I mean, in the hierarchy of horror style bad folk, I’d rate zombies only slightly above the blob, and under the Creature from the Black Lagoon and Joan Rivers. They come no where near the top of the list, that’s for damn sure (the top being, of course, werewolves…suck it vampires!).
Anyway, so this dude took 85% of a Jane Austen novel and added zombies. Now movie studios are bidding for the rights. Probably, were the film to ever get made, I would see it. Likely, I would enjoy it. Why the fuck didn’t I think of it?
It’s just like Phineas and Ferb. Why the hell do people always have to steal my good ideas before I have a chance to think of them?

‘Allo all,
Just dropping by to let you know that we hope everyone has enjoyed their wintery holidays, and despite the lack of updates lately (things like Kilian finishing his Masters degree, and oh, having a new child ((congratz and well done Katrina, Kilian and little Bella there)) kinda’ got in the way along with the regular holiday shenanigans) but 2009 marks a brand new year and we’re just getting started.
So thank you to all the awesome Normalinauts who’ve supported us through our first 1+ year as a webcomic experiment, we look forward to putting together some new stuff for you, and making the site and the NR experience even better. But most of all thank you. There’s no way that we could’ve kept it going and gotten NR this far without each and everyone of you.
I know it’s not a comic, but I did want to provide something visual here (as you can see slightly clipped above). For the full version you can either select the comic above or just click the thumbnail below.
We love you all,
–Aleister

They’ve Shut Down My Database…

Well, they haven’t shut it down…there’s some system upgrade going on here at work so I can’t get into it for a bit. In my boredom I decided to put up a new poll because I’m coy like that.
Get your vote on here…
…and so it rises once more… from the GRAVE!

Quick note to all faithful Normalinauts – which sounds somewhat cliche from anyone who’s spent a decent amount of time on something like LJ, but it is true, I am still alive! Yep, breathing in and out and everything. I must sincerely apologize for my recent and unplanned absence from the world of very faithful NR.
What you missed (from my side anyway) while I was gone:
-Salem had his first trip to the ER = parents were panicked, fevers were high and hatred for the medical system ensued. Salem is fine of course, the fever ended quite abruptly with minimal testing and trouble.
-Ran into trouble with the publisher for my half decade long GN project, a contract was terminated, the book was finished, and then the details of the termination of the contract were finalized, all in that order. The book, now done, and apparently contains no real ability to cause ocular trauma, is now looking for a new home. The people I have on my side seem exceedingly capable, so hopefully before too long, a home shall be found. The completion of this book has damn near killed me, on and off for the last 5 yrs… now it is slain, like the dragon it is!
-APril, Salem, Wednesday and I have moved yet again, from one part of the city we just moved into to from F-town to another, nicer part of the new city we recently moved to. The “move” is still ongoing and must be completed on Friday, but this biggest parts are done and much heartfelt thanks are in order for Manatol and John Paul for their assistance.
-Day job (vid-games) has been party to some rather dramatic and unforeseen changes, a lot of which seem to be painfully positive. We also had our first company outing in almost a yr… we went bowling, I took home top score. Booya bitches.
-Trying still to figure out attendance for SDCC this yr, especially in terms of a place to stay. Since the new trade collection (as in a graphic novel formatted release) of The Cemeterians is coming out at the end of this month from SLG, I really should get off me arse and attend properly… we’re sorting out the particulars still.
…and that’s the most i can remember off the top of my head. As most of these things are now done, over-with and have run their courses whatever they were, I am hoping to return to NR this week, properly, with artwork and a webcomic. Sorry again for the delay – I miss and love you all.
Cheers,
–Aleister

Ok, for those that have been following the recent antics of NR, and our current…erm, struggle with our ‘faithful’ Coding Goblins (much despite the excellent efforts of our own Exsulis) have probably noticed some cosmetic changes to the old Normality. We ain’t done yet, but(!) I do have some new stuff to bring to everyone who is interested. And with this new stuff, I would like to apologize for not posting it on Friday as I originally intended, but so it goes. The long weekend is over, and for your patience, here we bestow: stuff! ^__^ Enjoy.

Well Tengu stepped up…and I mean STEPPED UP because not only did he submit the first donation, his was big enough to garner every single “premium” we had to offer.
No doubt Tengu’s wife remembers a lovely sonnet I wrote in the spring of 1999; the subject of which was Pepsi. And, by the way, I didn’t have a choice, we were forced to write them about a food item. My consumption of Pepsi has decreased dramatically since those heady undergrad days (in fact, I’ve had a total of three regular sodas in the last three weeks, and I doubt it is a coincidence that I have lost over five pounds in that time), but I thought you all might like a taste of the kind of literary genius that will soon immortalize Tengu:

Dear Friends,
You may have noticed a button on the right side of the page there that says something about donations. Yes, we at Normality Restored are not above begging. For all pertinent information; what we’re asking, why, what we’re prepared to do for you, check out this page.

There is a new poll up in The Polling Place if you feel like clicking some boxes and then a button…I mean, what else are you doing right now?
More changes on the way…

My apologies, faithful Normalinauts, as this will be the only post today. Stupid work getting in the way of everything!
Tomorrow, hopefully, we will have a new poll up and next week (possibly) installment III of The Dawn Lights the Way.
Someday, maybe, we’ll actually put up another comic…maybe…
Just a heads up, the site will likely change (AGAIN!) very soon as exsulis and I have decided to test out Wordpress 2.5, which seems to include a lot of the functionality we want, without the need for 2 dozen plugins. Of course, it is still in beta form, so…

So if you are reading this and thinking to yourself, wow the site looks different, that’s because it does, in fact, look different. Early (about 1 am) Saturday morning something happened to some of the data on the server, and by data I mean files that wordpress needs to, oh what’s the word…right, function. So if you tried to visit the site anytime between 1 am and 9 pm on Saturday the only thing you got was a blank white page. See how jacked stuff was? It couldn’t even generate a 404 page!
Luckily exsulis (when half drunk, no less!) discovered a quick fix. That being, essentially, reinstalling wordpress over the old files. Of course, wordpress installs with a number of subdirectories already built in, which had the unintended consequence of replacing some folders with the same folder, but with much less “stuffs.” Case in point, the comic archive is gone (again), but that’s not such a huge loss since it is backed up on my laptop. The uploads folder, on the other hand….well I don’t want to talk about that right now.
Gilgrim’s artwork still exists on the server, though, so that is very good. Visual type stuff won’t be up again until later tonight or tomorrow.
I guess one good thing to come out of this was that I was getting fed up with the theme we were using anyway, so I thought I’d try this one out…let me know what you think.
For all the (six) regular Normalinauts, I’ll ask that you scroll down and check out the post that went up 20 minutes before the site went down…
Let’s just say that it was a less then impressive way to “launch” a new feature of the site. If you’ve stumbled upon this and you’re looking for the interview with James Blaylock, just scroll on down friend.
