Harper’s Island – Episode 4

This continuing…series, I guess we’ll call it…may be short lived. Last week, with no apparent warning, CBS moved Harper’s Island from Thursday to Saturday.
I say “no apparent warning” because the only way I found out was that my DVR was smart enough to record it without being told it had switched nights. A switch to Saturday is often the death knell for many a show, but if this guy is to be believed, the rest of the episodes will air. At this point, though, there’s only nine episodes left, so CBS isn’t really losing a lot airing them all on Saturdays. And, anyway, all the cool kids are at home at 9 pm Saturday nights (like me!) so…

So I will say this, yet again, before I really get started. If you haven’t seen the 3rd episode and plan on watching it, stop reading. I don’t want anyone blaming me for spoiling the show…
Ok, so after the third episode I’m still feeling confident in my assertion that Jimmy Mance is the murderer. Points to consider, from episode three, that I believe back up this position.

So it occurred to me last night, as I was watching the second episode of Harper’s Island (which, if you want to watch both episodes 1 and 2 in their entirety, you can can do so here), that while I’m not totally insane crazy about this show I’m interested enough after two episodes to invest another 11 hours of my life to find out who the crazy SOB is that’s offing people like it’s going out of style.
That being the case, I have decreed that I will now write a weekly “wrap up” of each episode until the curtain falls on the series.
Man I wish I could tell you what I know, but I can’t, so stop asking…seriously.

What I will say is that Gore Verbinski has decided not to direct the 4th installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. According to the article, Johnny Depp has signed on for the next one and it has a tentative release date of 2010. What I know about the movie I can’t say. Or, I should say, I know there’s a possibility that the next Pirate’s film is based on something or other but I can’t say anymore.
See what I did there? I teased because I’m a big teasing teaser.
Anyway, who else is pumped that Rescue Me is back? I haven’t watched the first episode of the season yet (I recorded it last night but wasn’t at home…if FX holds true to form they’ll replay 20 times between now and Sunday in any event) but I’m am seriously pumped. Minute for minute, it’s the best f*ing drama on TV. Not only is it coming back after 19 damn months, but Michael J Fox is guest starring on several episodes = awesome!
One last thing. Depending on gilgrim’s business which is, currently, hovering around insanity, there might be a comic this week. And it might involve goblins in some way (although, don’t they all now?) and something that no one besides me (well, maybe Tengu) will be even remotely interested in.

Remember when the Sci-fi Channel became “Syfy”? It happened like two minutes ago…it was a retarded attempt to rebrand a channel away from what it was formerly all about. If you want to read an article about how it’s cool anyway you can right here…I got about three paragraphs in and stopped.
Anyway, in another attempt at retarded television decisions the channel formerly (well, they haven’t changed their name yet…) known as Cartoon Network will now begin airing live action reality shows. If there’s one thing we certainly don’t need more of in this god forsaken country it’s fucking reality shows…especially on a channel that is supposed to be dedicated to animated programming.
Who wants to storm the Cartoon Network offices with me?
And a big thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday on facebook…I’d say that on facebook but, well, I’m lazy. It would be a happy birthday, too, if I wasn’t about to go spend the entire night trying to handsell books about cancer and internment camps…

Look I voted against Prop 8, alright…or for it…or, wait, whichever way it was that was for allowing two dudes to get hitched is the way I voted.

Watchmen comes out Friday, of course. And while this guy won’t be seeing it, I will. Well, probably not on Friday. I still have to arrange for some kind of child care type thing…but I WILL see it soon.
Anyway, I’ve read two reviews thus far, one scathing, one that can be summed up as “meh.” Rotten Tomatoes has it at 76 right now, which is fairly decent. I’m always fairly skeptical about critical acclaim/scorn when it comes to sci-fi/fantasy/comic films because, by and large, they don’t “get” the whole genre. In the “Top Critics” section it’s sitting at 17%. That’s with only six reviews, so that number will likely change come Friday. I’m not really making a point here, other than it’s something to watch.
Greg Grunberg, Parkman from Heroes, upset some people with a twitter… Just one more reason not to use it (even though I do…sometimes). If Heroes does get canceled that’ll leave The Mentalist and Phineas and Ferb as the only shows I’m even interested in anymore.
And speaking of Phineas and Ferb, tengu sent this link over…bask in the awesomeness (especially the song writing, which is one of the strongest parts of the show).
