Quick Items While I’m on Lunch

Watchmen comes out Friday, of course.  And while this guy won’t be seeing it, I will. Well, probably not on Friday. I still have to arrange for some kind of child care type thing…but I WILL see it soon.

Anyway, I’ve read two reviews thus far, one scathing, one that can be summed up as “meh.” Rotten Tomatoes has it at 76 right now, which is fairly decent. I’m always fairly skeptical about critical acclaim/scorn when it comes to sci-fi/fantasy/comic films because, by and large, they don’t “get” the whole genre. In the “Top Critics” section it’s sitting at 17%. That’s with only six reviews, so that number will likely change come Friday. I’m not really making a point here, other than it’s something to watch.

Greg Grunberg, Parkman from Heroes, upset some people with a twitter… Just one more reason not to use it (even though I do…sometimes). If Heroes does get canceled that’ll leave The Mentalist and Phineas and Ferb as the only shows I’m even interested in anymore.

And speaking of Phineas and Ferb, tengu sent this link over…bask in the awesomeness (especially the song writing, which is one of the strongest parts of the show).

First Post Today, Not a Comic

I’m sitting in a McDonald’s eating my reasonable approximation of a breakfast and just as I was about to leave Phineas and Ferb came on…this particular McDonald’s has several flat screen panels in the “eating” area.

Now I have to sit here and watch the rest of it. I’ll be with you in a bit…

Man that was good.

In case you’re curious, it was the S’winter episode:

Here’s something totally unexpected.

I just, this very minute (well, like ten minutes ago) sent a new comic to Gilgrim. It’s only three fairly simple panels. We might actually have another comic this week.

Can someone check to make sure the skies aren’t running red with blood?

OK, so this week’s comic will get more into this, but I’m seriously contemplating get rich quick schemes. Probably you’ve all heard of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies…no, well imagine Pride and Prejudice and then add some zombies. No, seriously, that’s fucking it.

A minor side ramble here. What’s the fucking deal with zombies? Seriously, why do people get all queezy in the nether regions about zombies? I just don’t get it. I mean, in the hierarchy of horror style bad folk, I’d rate zombies only slightly above the blob, and under the Creature from the Black Lagoon and Joan Rivers. They come no where near the top of the list, that’s for damn sure (the top being, of course, werewolves…suck it vampires!).

Anyway, so this dude took 85% of a Jane Austen novel and added zombies. Now movie studios are bidding for the rights. Probably, were the film to ever get made, I would see it. Likely, I would enjoy it. Why the fuck didn’t I think of it?

It’s just like Phineas and Ferb. Why the hell do people always have to steal my good ideas before I have a chance to think of them?

The Libertines — The Man Who Would Be King

Reports of my demise have been…slightly…exaggerated.

So it has been a month since the renewal of the gregorian calendar we affectionately know as “the new year” and there has been little to no activity on the ol’ NR. I am, in theory, less busy now than when I was still in school. I’m only teaching one class this semester and I don’t have any of my own to attend.

For those that haven’t had an infant in the house…how should I put this…it’s annoying.

Look, I love my son, but at six weeks old he’s still not sleeping more than 3 hours at a time, and somehow he came down with a virus which he’s had for a few weeks now (immune systems being new and all the colds linger in the youngins) which means that half the time, he won’t sleep…check that, even stop screaming, unless he’s being held. At six weeks old he can’t be manipulative so the screaming is for realz, yo!
