An update for, really, no reason at all…

My guess is that the change in the site’s look coupled with less than frequent updates, and even less frequent comics, has eroded our loyal readership from six to…is it possible to have a negative number of readers?

But I thought I’d come in here while the daughter is watching Horton Hears a Who (and mom and son are napping) to give a really brief update.

First off, I’m done teaching for the semester so, theoretically, I will be posting more over the summer. Of course, I may not be able to afford my house on just bookmine money, so that’s probably a net loss for me but a gain for Normalinauts everywhere.

Second, my graduation was on Saturday. Technically, my degrees were conferred in January but the actual “wear the weird robe, take a picture with the president, etc.” thing only happens in May. Tengu and his family were in attendance at the ceremony and did bestow upon me this righteous tome for the express purpose of my edification when ensconced at the bookmines.

I figure it would come in handy for those moments of boredom or when you suspect your work is being run by a cult of chaos…

As I told Tengu, those moments occupy every second I am “on the clock.”

Third, aside from the obvious site changes, the gallery system is undergoing changes and if you click that link back there, you’ll see what I mean. As with everything around here, completion of changes comes slow, like an iceberg, but is sweet and satisfying like…an iceberg?

Lastly, and I’d say most importantly, it occurred to me on Saturday that I had failed to mention on the ol’ NR that I currently have a short story up at another website. The story, titled “Four Homeruns” isn’t the type of thing I normally write. It’s more a memoir piece than straight fiction (is posted, in fact, in the non-fiction section of the site it’s on) and doesn’t even follow my most strongly held rule of writing…”that every story can be improved by the inclusion of at least one werewolf”. And even though baseball plays a significant part of the story (and I know there isn’t a lot of baseball fans around this place) there is a lot of profanity and gratuitous jokes about anal sex intertwined with thoughts on parenting so, really, there’s something for everyone. Also, I know most of the people who edit and have, thus far, written for the site and I totally vouch for their collective awesomeness as writers. The site is updated monthly, so go check it out, and then go back on June 1st…then every other 1st of every month for the rest of your lives:

Looking at the old gallery, I was thinking…we need a NR t-shirt featuring Kenny Crumbs from the C.R.U.S.T. strip. Kinda like how PA has their Mr. Period t-shirt.

I still come and vote for the site. Can’t wait to see the new look.

I can’t wait for the new look either! Exsulis, where are you???!!!!! And hey, thanks for the kind words c. I think the story does a good job of melding my desire to be a good father with my unhealthy fascination with baseball and butt jokes.

And, yeah, Kenny Crumbs on a shirt would rock.

Here’s a unicorn comic strip for Gilgrim. They aren’t pink, but it’s in black and white. http://oxboxer.livejournal.com/17915.html#cutid1
