Where pop culture meets geek culture and they make out a little.
Writing posts of no real use on my lunch is my new hobby…
Because that seems to be the only time I actually write anything anymore. I need to find more than 20 minutes here and 15 minutes there for this stuff.
Anyway, we’ve seen both Tengu and Jezmon assume their newly appointed duties as “author” on the site (Kerri’s now the top commentator!) and I’ll take a moment to introduce everyone to the newest member of the NR team…Stoker…who may shortly grace us all with a review of the newest issue of Joe Hill’s Locke and Key. I, for one, am agog…seriously, I haven’t read this line yet and Stoker is more knowledgeable about comics than anyone else I personally know so I value his opinion in said arena.
We may, in fact, have yet one more brave soul coming on board the NR family(mafia) as well…damn, this shit’s explodin’ yo!
Remember when I wrote that these posts are of no real use…it’s right there at top, see? Anyway, I do have one piece of news that might interest you faithful Normalinauts.
NR is going to APE!!!!
OK, I know we floated that idea last year and it died a quick death, but this time…THIS TIME…we’re planning early, we’re combining forces with the mighty Alamanac(k) y Newswire de Mojo and are gearing up to storm the streets of the city by the bay in a nerd frenzy the likes of which no man has yet seen.
I’ll keep everyone posted as developments…develop. So if you don’t currently have plans for October 16-17 why not go to the APE and say hi. I did live in the City for five years so after the expo closes we can all glut ourselves on various ethnic delicacies and get trashed at my favorite bars!

On a scale of one to “9”

Stoker here folks. So I was reading Kilian’s article on “Krod Mandoon” and “Harper’s Island” when his comment about the last film he saw struck home. Kilian made mention of the fact that the last movie he saw was “Monsters vs. Aliens” and that he would likely see “Up” next. This is all fine and More >

Hey all Jezmon here. I’ve taken it upon myself to bring you Normalinauts a semi-regular update on the state of the Star Wars universe.
As you know, our faithful leader has an unending love for the “holy trilogy” (his son’s middle name is Skywalker for Force’s sake). He and I have shared this love More >
Brief Update Whilst I Devour Foodstuffs

So today I’m trying an experiment in…let’s call it, pushing the limits of ridiculousness. See, I came into the bookmines at 6 am and I’ll leave at 2. I will then return at 9 pm and stay until 5 am. I will then have to teach at 8:30. At some point More >
Because We Don’t Get Enough Site Views…Plus, I’m Kinda a Dick

So the other day Tengu sends me the following e-mail, posted here in its entirety:
So when is the good old NR going to start doing reviews like PA’s so you can get free swag like them?
So, follow the link and read about how Gabe got free table top gaming terrain. I mean, I’d love More >
The Future Wave of Publishing is….wait for it…FREE F’ING BOOKS!
about 1 year ago - 2 comments
Remember when you could download the (most awesome) Neil Gaiman novel American Gods for free (it’s mentioned in there somewhere)?
Well, that was just a single book, from a single author, for a finite period of time. Another publisher, however, has taken it to the next level.
Suvudu now has a permanent, free, online More >
Watchmen is Here
about 1 year ago - 3 comments
Remember when I said I’d be keeping track of the reviews for Watchmen….I said it like three days ago…geez do you guys even pay attention?
Anyway, as the movie opens today more reviews are in. The main Rotten Tomatoes page has it sitting at a 64% while the Top Critics portion is in at 45%. More >
I’m Now Testing the Space Aged Device Known as the Interwebz
about 1 year ago - 5 comments
The whole purpose of this test is to check whether or not NR has successfully created a magical link between the NR site you all know and love and twitter.
As the faithful Normalinauts know twitter is to Gilgrim as cowbell is to Walkin and you don’t even have to be on twitter or have a More >
Quick Items While I’m on Lunch

Watchmen comes out Friday, of course. And while this guy won’t be seeing it, I will. Well, probably not on Friday. I still have to arrange for some kind of child care type thing…but I WILL see it soon.
Anyway, I’ve read two reviews thus far, one scathing, one that can be summed up More >
Here’s something totally unexpected.

I just, this very minute (well, like ten minutes ago) sent a new comic to Gilgrim. It’s only three fairly simple panels. We might actually have another comic this week.
Can someone check to make sure the skies aren’t running red with blood?
OK, so this week’s comic will get more into this, but I’m More >

‘Allo all,
Just dropping by to let you know that we hope everyone has enjoyed their wintery holidays, and despite the lack of updates lately (things like Kilian finishing his Masters degree, and oh, having a new child ((congratz and well done Katrina, Kilian and little Bella there)) kinda’ got in the way along with the More >

Bwahahaha. I think I was the top commentator before Tengu and Jezmon joined your ring-kissing gun-toting deerhead-sexing little fambly.
Oh, and if you ever need someone to review weird foreign snackfoods, I’m your gal. Except for mochi. I refuse to eat that stuff again.
Well, I guess you could review that past experience.
I’m still awaiting that review of Cottage cheese.

Yeah, but mr “i only write rants about my hatred of cottage cheese and ice” has been decidedly quiet…
