NR The Holiday Spirit

Greetings Normalinauts. Lookie, lookie, I finally figured out how to make a post for tyhe actual comic section O_O woo-hoo! You’re all doomed now… >__>

This week’s comic actually was supposed to be number 2 in last week’s line up since the Save the Monkey Project comic went up on an off-date. Unfortunately, things got a bit hectic and we weren’t able to post it when we wanted (and I was a bit late in wrapping it up). But just the same, here it is, ready for your enjoyment.

This comic stems from a conversation between myself and miss April about alternate xmas iconography. So much of this holiday has been anthropomorphically personified by elves, santa, reindeer, moose, penguins and sundry other cold weather animals, beasties and mythological creatures. We thought that there was plenty of room in the beastiery pantheon to add a few new creatures, which begat the first couple of designs shown in the comic and lovingly modeled by the gobos.

As for the last one, well, that came from (as in the comic) a very literal analysis of what the xian version of the winter holidays are all about. And literalism being what it is, I took it to the logical end and you get the “the Crowning of Christ” as seen in the final panel. Yes, it is exactly what it sounds like. It is exactly what it looks like. And yes, if there actually were such a thing as a xian hell, I’m sure that my future table reservation would already be firmly reserved. Luckily, this isn’t the case. But all the same, if someone is offended by this, I would apologize, except I would find it hypocritical to do so, however, it was not my intention to insense anyone or upset them personally. Sorry, religion is funny, life is funny, and NR has been pretty even about leveling its venomous sights on anyone and everyone (as illustrated below).

Salem and Tako are here to represent for NR

Kilian will be resurfacing to the land of the living and cognascent sometime in the very near future. As a matter of fact, he did prepare script for this week’s comic (not shown) which dealt directly with his current experience and degree of fatigue. Funnily enough, I was writing this comic with that in mind as well, and presented him in the fashion/state in which I envision him to currently be. Life immitating are or vice versa as you see fit.

We love you all,

–Aleister

  1. Tengu says:

I like that X-Mas Cyclops sweater. As for the rest, all I can say is…whoa.

  2. exsulis says:

I’m also in favor of the Xmas Cyclops, though I do love the Jingle Demon. :)

“The Crowning of Christ” only adds in to my damnation from owning the Buddy Christ.

  3. The Cyclops seems to be the popular one. I’m rather partial to the Unicorn myself, although if I had had more time I probably would’ve made an elf-streetwalker sweater, because frankly, I would actually wear one of those… much like the Unicorn. Wonder what that says about me?

  4. exsulis says:

How about a Gobbo-American Street walker? The Unicorn isn’t bad in any shape, or form, I just prefer the others. I’d guess the unicorn is something I imagine a parent forcing a child to wear during the festive season compared to the others.

Ooo, how about the Unicorn for fake antlers?

  5. O_o but the poor gobos… actually the correct question should be: but is it xmas-y enough?

  6. Tengu says:

An elven streetwalker sweater would be hilarious. Could Mrs. Claus be the pimp in the background?

  7. exsulis says:

Well, the Gobos would be Xmas-y, if they were dressed in Red with the furry white balls on inappropriate places.

  8. Shalyn says:

I liked the Jingle Demon the best. I would totally wear the Jesus one though. I like collecting Jesus stuff. (My favorite Jesus thing is my Jesus bobble head.)

  9. exsulis says:

Is it the Buddy Christ Bobble head? Cause nothing says Heritic like the Bobble head.

  10. Spookymuffin says:

hahaha, i like collecting Jebus things too. I have jebus tape and bandaids. BEING HEALED BY THE POWER OF JEBUS!! :D

i heart the xmas jellyfish :)

  11. Kerri says:

I like the demon one. Gobo fashion show!

  12. Shalyn says:

It’s not the buddy Christ, but he is wearing pink shades, jeans, and a shirt that says “My dad created the universe and all I got was this lousy t-shirt.” He stands on my DVD player next to my Batman bobble head. They’re good friends, Jesus and Batman.

  13. kilian says:

I’m pretty sure Jesus is Batman.

  14. Teal-Rose says:

perhaps i am a bit slow, but i dont get the crowning of jesus one ^^; i like the jingle demon though ^^

  15. exsulis says:

Aww, but the Buddy is so cool. Hippy t-shirt Jesus sounds equally heretical as Buddy.

Jesus can’t be The Batman if he is standing right next to him. Well, unless one of them went back in time, and thus creating a new quantum universe.

Teal-Rose: Jesus is usually portrayed in a very solemn pose, or on the cross. Picturing him being happy, and the thumbs-up while being crowned with the crown of thorns would be a little…

  16. Tengu says:

I think the “crowning” that the NR comic is referring to would be the type of “crowning” that occurs when a baby is being born from mom’s womb.

  17. Tengu is correct… check the colour scheme used in the actual design and let your gutter-skipping mind be your guide ^__^

  18. exsulis says:

Woot, chalk one up to not being a dad. But looking at said picture from the sewer I definitely see it as birthing instead of a whimsical x-mas design.

  19. Teal-Rose says:

lol thanks for the insight guys ^^ love the comics!

  20. Spookymuffin says:

    P.s.
“take on me” = awesome kick ass song of kick ass awesomeness :3
