I am a swimming in, how do you say, books.
2I’m reading three books right now; Geek Love, The Street of Crocodiles, and The Posthumous Memories of Bras Cubas. I just finished The Names three days ago. I’m also trying to write three (reasonably short) papers and grade 37.
As I type this, there are more than 25 books in my car. If I take a corner too fast I am randomly hit in the head by something like this, or this, or this.
Of course, all of this is of secondary import today.
My fingers have started to fall off.
2Is there a law requiring that, in establishments whose menu consists mostly of coffee and espresso based items, the temperature can never be above 50 degrees Fahrenheit? Seriously. I’ve been sitting here for an hour and I now have a moderate case of frost bite. On Saturday I put on pants and a jacket (even though the outside temperature was over 90) because I was going to study and I didn’t want to shiver the whole time.
Thank you, heartless, massive, globo-corp for this bounty!
2Yesterday we switched providers of that most essential of today’s needs, internetz providation (and, by extension, cable-style television viewing). The new provider also…provides…access at my favorite large, multinational, coffee mafia, er, establishment.
So I’m writing while sipping, daintily, my overpriced black tea.
Oh the gods of modernity and technocracy are good for this they have bestowed!
I may be dead soon.
2It’s not even 6:30 am yet (here in California) and I’ve been up for almost two hours. I’ve gotten in the habit of getting up between 4:30 and 5 (for a variety of reasons) so that I can leave the house by 5:30 at the latest. Most days (that is, every day) I’m not home until 6:30 in the evening. I’m having trouble finding time to do homework, and I’ll be honest, I’ve had almost no thoughts about the website.
I didn’t fall asleep after midnight, so as you can imagine, I’m exhausted.
I thought I drank a lot of coffee when I was still working for the soul sucking insurance industry, but that was nothing.
A Brief Moment to Say Goodbye
2It is entirely possible that when you read this, the universe will have ended…or been sucked into a black hole…or something. Right now it’s almost 11 PM on the West Coast which means that they should be turning on the Large Hadron Collider over there in Europe soon.
If you’re interested, this Wired article gives a good account of some the stuff they are hoping the LHC might help to make more clear.
Of course, since we’re all going to die in a slow, agonizing way, it’s probably of little account.
Of course we knew how it would end.
1JK Rowling, having scored one for the BIG GUY, has won her copyright case against Steven Vander Ark and his publisher RDR Books.
You, faithful Normalinauts, may remember I opined on this subject most vehemently once…
To this day it remains one of the busiest, in terms of site views, we’ve ever had here at ol’ Normality Restored. Most of that thanks to a group of…let’s call them “fans“…of Rowling’s who thought I was wrong, deadly wrong.
In any event, I think we all knew where this case was headed, right? I mean, there was no way a small publisher in Michigan (hint: if you are a publisher in Michigan, then by definition you are small) was going to beat the massed forces of darkness known as the Warner Brother’s Legal Team.
So, no hardcopy HP Lexicon for us. Now on to things that actually matter.
