JK Rowling has deigned that the “little people” are allowed to read.

Remember when JK Rowling, saint that she is, made seven bourgeoisie copies of Tales of Beedle the Bard, and auctioned one off for charity?

Well, I guess she decided that more than 7 people should be allowed to read the thing because it’s going to be released to the public later this year.

Now, I took some shots at her for releasing it the way she did originally, arguing that it was a big f-u to her fans who might clamor like a half-starved dog over a soup bone for the stupid thing. So, I guess I have to give her some credit for releasing it to the masses…no, sorry it’s just not in my nature.

Yes, I’m going to admit that I will likely (OK, fine, I will) buy a copy of this stupid thing if for no other reason then to “complete” my set.

Now, I won’t be getting the “extra special magical edition with extra ruby encrusted coke spoon” because I’m not that big of a nerd. Oh fine, I AM, I just don’t have the cash.

And, yes, Rowling has said that she will donate charity…of course, it’s her charity. Nothing against her charitable efforts, but I’m always a little suspicious when a celebrity donates to his/her own charity. It just seems…I don’t know, odd.

OK, one last thing, even though it’s baseball related…I just read, not more then 5 minutes ago, that the Dodgers traded for Manny Ramirez. This is an expected turn of events indeed. Tengu, let’s go camp out for playoff tickets!

Boy would I feel dumb if I’d bought one of the original seven.

    *coughAmazoncough*

It’s sort of like the Brett Farve travesty. Both of them? Need to just shut up.

  2. kilian says:

Well, that original one does have the extra special hand crafted, emerald lined slop bucket, which won’t come in the expensive version for general consumption, so that’s something at least

  3. Tengu says:

Who’s Beedle the Bard? As impressive as Manny Ramirez stats, are I just can’t get over his general attitude while playing. But if he helps get the Dodgers to the playoffs then hey, it works for me. We can sit in the all you can eat section in the Right Field pavilion.

  4. Kerri says:

I can’t decide if those ‘all you can eat’ sections make me jealous or queasy.

  5. Kerri says:

And durrr. Added the last two letters of my name on.

*wonders if brain is somewhere filling on dogs and nachos in said all you can eat section*

I’ve been donating to the “Liquor and Pills for The Unknown Suavo foundation” for years, and I have to say, money well spent. Our last telethon was kind of a flop though…

Nice of Rowling to extend her offer of a book people were (vaguely) interested in to those same people in exchange for their money. A fine victory for the classic business model of “selling to people a thing which they want”. It reminds of back when Sony decided to make a few more playstations, thereby allowing them to sell a few more playstations. Good times all around.

Well this is the business model of “producing something people want to buy, but not in a way that those same people can buy it…then later deciding that, yes in fact, those people should be able to buy it.” Which is slightly different.

Although, the charity that the proceeds will benefit (despite the fact that it was co-founded by Rowling) appears to be doing some good work for disadvantaged kids in former eastern block countries

< begin baseball > Tengu, I think this is a win-win situation for the Dodgers. Manny only agreed to waive his no trade if the team getting him would definitely decline his 20 mil option for next year (making him a free-agent at the end of the season). So, Manny will have more reasons (millions and millions of them!) to produce at the plate then at any time in his career. It’ll be his last shot an another long term/high price contract and much of what he can get will come down to the next two months and (hopefully) the playoffs. The Red Sox are paying for the rest of the season so it’s not “costing” the Dodgers any money to have one of the best hitters ever in their lineup for a pennant stretch. Torre is one of the few managers who Manny would probably be on good behavior for, and anyway, we already have Kent in the dugout so what’s another self-absorbed future HOF a-hole? As for his attitude…when he wants to play, you can’t question him. He just hasn’t wanted to play for Boston this year (and even still, look at his production!).

Lastly, with the addition of Blake and Manny, Colletti may have just saved his job. In a perfect world, the Dodgers would just cut A Jones and then hope furcal can make if back for September and the playoffs. With Furcal at the top of this lineup…shit, the Dodgers would have the best 1-8 in the NL!

I haven’t had any Dodgers dogs yet this season, so a couple of binge/purge sessions during the stretch drive are definitely in order!< /begin baseball >

You know, MNans are terrific. Instead of letting the players brawl with the visiting team, WE do it.
