JK Rowling has deigned that the “little people” are allowed to read.

8

Remember when JK Rowling, saint that she is, made seven bourgeoisie copies of Tales of Beedle the Bard, and auctioned one off for charity?

Well, I guess she decided that more than 7 people should be allowed to read the thing because it’s going to be released to the public later this year.

And to think I’ve wasted all this money on my “supposed” degrees when it could have been so much easier.

Far be it from me to disparage the higher education practices in other states, but I think I’m going to have to move to Tennessee. I mean, if people can get university level positions with degrees from such places as “Cambridge State University” and “Belford University” and some place called “Brighton University” (which was closed by court order and should not be confused with the University of Brighton) what am I doing wasting my time at Chapman?

Hell, I could have had a 4.0 for only 75 extra bucks! That’s one hell of a deal.

Sure, I have a teaching thing lined up for this fall already, but it sure would have been a lot easier, and cheaper, to use my “life experiences” as a qualification for a PhD.

What really bothers me about that article, though, is that all of the supervisors that were interviewed defended the people with the fraudulent degrees. “Well, this dude with the fake doctorate has a REAL master’s, so that’s cool.” Is that the state of academic integrity in this country? No wonder students just download papers from the internet. That’s how their professor’s are getting degrees!

Third Post of the Day, with a Question!

Certainly, smarter (and in the case of John Stewart and Stephen Colbert, much funnier and more entertaining) people than me have pondered the degradation of journalistic standards in this country. I’m not going to wax philosophic about it.

But…

I came across this article and had a thought, and wanted to hear some other people’s reaction.

OK, it’s fairly short, so I’m just going to extract the whole thing.

Reason #246 Why Europe is Better than the U.S.

When a sports team in this country decides that it’s time to update the uniforms, what do they do? Maybe have one or two of the team’s stars come out wearing the new jerseys at a press conference.

Well, that’s child’s play! Bayern Munich (they of the German Bundesliga) understand that what a new uniform unveiling really needs is a fashion show…with soaring, third rate techno-classical music…and CONTEMPORARY DANCE!

If you don’t laugh out loud right about the 1:29 mark, I’m not sure we can be friends anymore.

I cannot comprehend the thought process of some people…

So I wander over to msnbc.com because I put in my resignation notice today and, therefore, feel less affected by any interwebz constraints placed on the rest of the employees in my office.

What do my eyes gaze upon whilst there? The following headline:

Standup comedy didn’t die with Carlin
Dane Cook, Chris Rock, Jon Stewart are heirs to comic’s throne

You see that first name listed there? Dane Cook? Dane, mother f’ing, no talent hack, Cook?!

While I didn’t actually go since I had other plans, I did however get random updates such as this golden little nugget. Felicia Day made a slight slip, which I’m sure the rest of you will find enjoyable.

Felicia Day Twitters from hacksaway on Vimeo.

While I would suggest Kilian add her to his stalkable list, I think Tyco might have beat him to the punch with today’s PA comic.

Gilgrim’s Machinations…and Other Thoughts

I’ve done it. Against my better judgement I finally “twitted” (is that the proper past tense of ‘to twitter’…i’m not sure). I originally signed up soon after gilgrim did, but actually did nothing with the service(?) due to my fondness for annoying people by not doing what they ask…in this case, not “twitting” because gilgrim said I should.
