2008 Philip K. Dick Award Finalists

# Grey, Jon Armstrong (Night Shade)
# Undertow, Elizabeth Bear (Bantam Spectra)
# From the Notebooks of Dr. Brain, Minister Faust (Del Rey)
# Nova Swing, M. John Harrison (Bantam Spectra)
# Gradisil, Adam Roberts (Pyr)
# Ally, Karen Traviss (Eos)
# Saturn Returns, Sean Williams (Ace)

I have not read a single one of those books due to the fact that graduate school requires that I actually like study and junk…

Even though this is not a “serious” literary award, it should be noted that both of my mentors (well, I call them my mentors, I suppose they might not like to be known as such…), James P Blaylock and Tim Powers are past Philip K. Dick winners.

I haven’t read any of those books either, but when it comes to awards, even the Academy Awards, I usually haven’t seen any. I’ve been sick and blowing through mediocre but semi-quick reads, Carol Berg’s Flesh and Spirit, David B Coe’s Children of Amarid, and Oliver Johnson’s Lightbringer Trilogy, which I don’t recommend unless you see the whole thing for under a buck. I got it as strips, which Kilian will know about. The dark secret of booksellers. (I also walked out of B and N with all of Jordan’s series that way.)

P.S. Am I the only one still voting???

I’m still punching my vote in every 15-23 hours when the website allows it. I think we’ve hit a plateau in competing against the other sites out there.

I’d say so…I vote twice a day, once from work and home…we need to recruit some more Normalinauts!

And, ah good ol’ strips…I was once stripping some MM when a supervisor, A SUPERVISOR, came in the back and yelled at me for destroying inventory…god it was nice to see the GM explain to her that she was an idiot…

  4. Kerri says:

I’d totally go back to BN to dumpster dive if I could get away with it. Some policeman would likely find me in the back in a pool of books, a blissful yet empty look on my face…

Strips are an awesome way to get books!!! Well, free books anyway.
